Who's Ready for Solids?
When the doctor says, "You can now begin introducing solids".

If you are a new MAMA like me, and the doctor said, "You can now begin introducing solids" you might have felt super excited, and at the moment forgot to ask questions. Let me explain.
When I was told we were ready for solids, I asked what I can give and not give, but afterwards when it was time to actually feed baby solids so many questions came to mind. Do I replace solids for a bottle feed? How much do I give them? Do I reduce the breastmilk/ formula amount on the next feed? Do I mix with water or formula? What order should I feed them what first? and much, much more!
After all these questions being answered and learning from experience, here is my journey into solids with my 6 months old twins.
We first started with butternut squash (cooked by Chef. Almir), while making the baby food he ensured to add no fats, and for this first time all flavor added was using herbs that have health benefits for the body. Both babies loved it!... Even I liked it. First feed was on a Saturday 10 AM (solids are to be fed as snacks when starting- in between feeds) with a spoon. This was more fun than anything. Second feed was the next day same veggie, and then we waited two days to see how their body reacted. First Solid- Total success!
Afterwards, we introduced carrots; also cooked by Chef. Almir and once again all natural, no preservatives. This one was even better than the first, as carrots have a natural sweetness to them. For this feed, babies were grabbing the spoon and taking it to their mouths; I was in awe of how fast they learn things. For this feed and the next (which was peas) to follow we also did the same, fed twice (10 AM and afternoon 3-4PM) a day for two days, and then waited to see how they reacted to it.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Solids are to be fed as snacks in-between feeds. (Since we are just introducing solids, these feeds are more for fun than actually feeding. Babies are still revieing all their nutrients from milk.)
- You do not decrease your bottle feeds nor the amount. (Baby will let you know if he/she is full.)
- In the beginning try one food item at a time.
- Do not do only yellow/orange veggies, mix in greens.
- Do all veggies, then all fruits, then meats. (Fruits for the end as they are sweet, and babies will love.)
- Give water after each solid feed (1-2 oz. of water) - in a sippy cup!
- Baby spoons we use are these Munchkin Soft Baby Spoons
- Baby Plate sets (Love these!)
- If you are buying the baby food know that each container is labeled with stage 1, 2, 3 foods.

This is definitely one of the fun stages we will experience with our babies. So, enjoy every moment! If you like to make your baby food, sing up for our stage 1 baby food recipes. If you want it made for you send us a msg and we will deliver to you.
MAMA TIP: If baby gets constipated any fruit that starts with the letter "P" will help tummy. (Prunes, Pears, Pineapple, Peach, etc.)
